Clickbank seems to be a reputable company with some good quality products and some not so good. This isn’t really about Clickbank it is about the guru’s who make and market Clickbank products. This is a story about how I discovered a secret hidden deep inside the pages of the MEGA affiliate marketing website we call Clickbank.

My little story:

My name is Bill Saint and I live in a city about 45 minutes outside of Boston, Ma. In mid 2007 I realized that the economy was on a downward spiral. I wanted to figure out a way to make some extra money.

So I began searching Google for some passive income wealth building strategies. I started studying real estate, specifically foreclosures, and internet home based businesses.
I was especially intrigued by affiliate marketing, because I liked the idea of not having to build my own website, not having to worry about holding inventory and not shipping out products.

So I began to really research the concept and doing what I do best…… LOOK FOR THE CATCH!

After several months of studying various methods of internet marketing and learning concepts about generating web traffic I began to promote several Clickbank products…..
But I could never achieve the success talked about by the self proclaimed affiliate marketing “gurus.”

NO, I DIDN’T QUIT CLICKBANK…….. YET!

I continued to research and fine tune my campaigns. I read marketing books. I studied copywriting techniques. I watched online marketing videos and of course bought many of the hyped up internet marketing products…..

But this was NOT money and time wasted!

By carefully studying the industry for almost two years; I learned a total “Black Hat” TOP SECRET method used by the SUPER ELITE internet marketers!

I know what you’re thinking. And……

This Guru method which I’m about to share is actually evil genius, but too evil for me to ever use.

The EVIL Plan Revealed:

The Clickbank Gurus target people searching Google for how to make money online or how to work from home. Average people just trying to make some extra money in a difficult economy. Let’s call this average person (Joe) to make it easier to explain and understand.

Joe does a Google search one night for “make money online” and all types of internet marketing ads come up. Joe gets confused very quickly, but he really wants to learn how to make some extra money online. He begins browsing around on the internet. One site just seems to lead to another and Joe gets tangled in an internet marketing web. Strategically spun together by the top internet marketers.

Joe starts reading the guru’s internet marketing sales hype and likes that he can make money with no website by promoting affiliate products. He reads that he can earn commissions of 50, 60, 75 and even 100% promoting these products from a company called Clickbank! He just has to promote or market the affiliate link provided and Clickbank will even process the credit card transactions for him!

So with the hype presented by the guru, Joe is thinking to himself “I don’t need my own product, I don’t need a merchant account, I don’t need a website, I CAN DO THIS!”

The guru ends up selling our boy Joe a “how to market affiliate products online” course ranging from $47 to $1997 depending on the course. This “how to” course is supposed to contain all the information our buddy Joe will needs to succeed making money online. Little does Joe know there will be many more products that he will “need” down the road, but that is a topic for another day.

Joe buys the course and starts marketing a Clickbank product or two. He begins spending his time and money placing ads in Google adwords just like he was taught to do by the guru. He starts generating some traffic, but finds that he is only making a few sales here and there. The money he is making isn’t even close to enough to pay for his ad campaigns.

This is exactly the reason why the Clickbank gurus have convinced Joe to market their product! They knew all along that they could never make a profit simply selling the low end Clickbank product.
Why would they pay Joe a 65% commission if it were profitable to sell these products themselves?
What they do is use the Clickbank affiliate page to capture leads for their future promotions or backend products.

They use Joe’s advertising efforts to get FREE qualified email addresses! That is the real game here!
Our naive Joe is paying for all of this traffic and missing 98% of the benefit! The internet marketing guru is getting FREE HOT LEADS on Joe’s dime! Joe only gets paid for people who buy right away, but after that person leaves his affiliate page they are lost forever. He will never see a return on that investment.

The guru places an “opt in” form on the affiliate sales page or somewhere in the sales process. Now a certain percentage of Joe’s generated traffic will at least provide the guru with their email address so that they can promote their high end products to that lead for life!
How much of those sales does our boy Joe get? ZERO!

Insider Email List Building and Pay Per Click Techniques

Driving traffic to your sites with pay per click advertising is one of the best ways to increase the income you make online. Your PPC traffic needs to be very targeted so it performs and doesn’t waste your advertising budget. Selecting the right set of keywords for your campaigns is one of the most important steps to creating a profitable Adwords campaign.

As an affiliate marketer you need to make sure that you are using only the most targeted keywords in order to maximize your conversion rates. The adwords program favors accounts that create relevant ads so focus on making sure that the content of the website you are promoting matches the keywords you are targeting. It is best to have smaller ad groups targeted on specific keywords. Add the keyword in the title of the ad if you can as this will help to improve the click through rates on your ads.

You can also check the quality score of a keyword in your adwords account by selecting it from the dropdown menu in the keywords section of your account. The landing page from your ads is also crucial. Ensure that there is sufficient content, it is fine to use a squeeze page as long as there is enough text content describing the product you are trying to sell. Add some relevant keywords onto your landing pages as naturally as possible as this will help to improve the quality score of your ads.

Keep in mind that an account that has a high quality score in Google adwords will not be charged as much for ads and the ads will also rank higher. Click through rate is important and you want it to be as high as possible. Having super targeted ad groups is one of the best ways to boost your click through rates. Also make sure that you split test several ads to find out which ones convert the best.

Tracking the conversion rates of the keywords is very important because if you find that certain keywords are converting well then you will want to bid higher on those since they are most likely making you money. Conversely you will find other keywords for which you may be paying a lot but discover that they are not converting into sales. You should immediately delete the keywords that are not converting into sales! Don’t get attached to any keyword; remember that you are using internet marketing as a means to make money. Google adwords and any other PPC campaigns expenses can really add up fast so make sure that you are tracking and fine tuning your campaigns consistently.

Many affiliate products on Clickbank offer tools to help you track your campaigns. Also utilize the free tools provided by Google. A lot of merchants will actually do it if you approach them in an appropriate manner. Remember that the keyword on your ad is bolded in the search results so this helps to set your ad apart and attract clicks. Ensure that your keyword is in the ad and sprinkled throughout your landing page and website. When first starting out you should keep your ad headline simple using just three words with the keyword being one of the three. Simple headlines can do very well because they tell the visitor that your site matches what they are searching for; just keep it relevant.

Do your best to keep the body of your ad focused on the benefits of the product. Don’t use fluff words and try to hype the product up. If you feel like the product needs to be hyped up then you are probably marketing the wrong product. Good products that work and benefit the user sell themselves!

If you are an affiliate then you will need to create a landing page before you send people to the original sales page. Consider a landing or squeeze page because you will then be able to market to these same people in the future with other relevant products. A squeeze page is a simple single page that has the primary purpose of getting the visitor to fill out an opt in form to receive more information. There is only one product or tool that I know of that actually allows you to create a squeeze page for any Clickbank or affiliate product without actually making a webpage.

This product allows you to create video, audio or simple text squeeze or landing pages in minutes. Every affiliate marketer should be using this product to increase their revenue. You actually used this product when you landed on this site!

The captured email addresses can be stored within the product or you can have them sent to any autoresponder such as Aweber or Icontact. You can now build an email marketing list of your own while profiting from the affiliate products you promote!

Realize that most of the visitors to your site will not purchase on their initial visit so it is necessary for you to have a way to continue to market the product to them. You know that they are interested in what you have because they took the time to search for it on Google. Send them useful information about the product and how it will help them solve their problems. Use email marketing to introduce other products to your list! Use your email marketing campaigns to build relationships with your list and provide them with useful content not just ads.

If they aren’t on Twitter today, they’ll likely be on tomorrow.

Could it possibly be that easy?

Well, not quite. Once you have your account opened, that’s when the for most people, the challenges begin. It’s a very very rudimentary concept, but like a Rubik’s Cube, unless you have a clear strategy, you’re going to soon be scratching your head.

Finding a Niche (Start at the Begining)

You should always start at the beginning right? Well my friend that is where you are now. It took me a long time to get to the beginning.

My first piece of advise is STOP! Stop searching the internet looking for the next get rich quick scheme. I’ve been down that road and it leads to nowhere really fast. Stop reading the emails sent to you by the so called “gurus” of the internet touting the next big internet marketing launch. They’re just trying to sell you something that only has a tiny piece of the pie.

Save yourself the time and money; simply focus on what I am going to show you here for free. Your investment is your time and effort and this will take effort. If you can’t give a little effort then keep searching the web for a miracle, because that is what you are going to need. Creating passive income takes time and effort; there is no short cut or easy way to build a real business.

The Beginning: Take Action! Find your passion!

Discovery:

What is your passion? What do you like to do? Start brainstorming ideas and ask yourself questions such as: enjoy What am I really good at? What do I enjoy making or creating? Maybe you are an artist? Do you or can you provide a service? Are you really knowledgeable about a particular topic? Do you have any hobbies or special skills? Do you love animals or gardening? Fill in this blank and I bet you’ll find your niche…. When I do or talk about ___________ people can’t take their eyes off of me.

I think you get the point; but make sure that the things you jot down are things that you love, because you will be marketing and creating products for or about this passion. If you truly choose something you love then the marketing of your passion will not seem like work. It will actually be fun, because you will be promoting something that you enjoy talking, reading and writing about.

When you begin creating this list of passions for yourself do not get caught up in the details, just write down the things that you love to do. Do not focus on the money aspect right now, just jot down the things you are good at and enjoy doing. Even if the topic seems insignificant; write it down!

This process of discovery is the start of creating your niche. Your niche will be your slice of the internet world. You will be the expert for your niche, because I’m going to show you how to become the expert. First you have to start at the beginning and discover your niche.

Pay Per Click marketing

Pay Per Click or PPC is an excellent way to drive traffic to your website quickly. One of the problems with PPC is that if you don’t set up your campaign properly it can cost you a lot of mony fast.

I will be digging deeper into this topic in furture post, but today I wanted to give you a couple of things you should have in place before you begin dabbling with PPC campaigns.

A landing or squeeze page. You MUST have a way to generate leads from the traffic you are generating. You are paying for this traffic! You must be able to market to the people who click on your ad after they leave your site. Most people will NOT buy your product the very first time they see it. Capture their email address!
It is great to sell products using PPC, but it is even better to have backend products to sell! The initial product you sell should simply cover the PPC cost. The real money is in the backend products! This is how the Guru’s make all their money! HAVE BACKEND PRODUCTS!
Have a system in place to make sure that you are tracking your traffic. This is super important! Know what keywords are converting your traffic into sales! Don’t throw your money away on keywords that don’t make you money. Know if you landing/squeeze page is converting.
Have a couple of back up strategies in place. Know that your first campaign will probably not meet your expectations. Have alternate campaigns in mind so that you can switch immediately to your next keyword list. Don’t waste time and money on campaigns that are not converting for you.

When you are first learning about internet marketing it is a difficult task to be able to put all of these things together. When I first started out I didn’t even know that I needed these things never mind getting them in place. One of the things that ended up being a major help to me was that I found a system with most of these things built for me. It allowed me to concentrate my energy on driving traffic while it did the rest. Once you learn how to generate traffic you can slowly learn how to do the rest as you go if you choose. If you have a blog of your own make sure that you list it in Technorati.

Technorati.com is a search engine for blogs and it is important to be listed in it if you are the author of one. It is similar to a website being listed in Google so get your blog listed and claim it as your blog. It is a simple 3 step process. For the second step Technorati will have you place a code such as 6qdxavek2u into a blog post. This code verifies that the blog is in fact yours.
